Monad (MON): The Most Performant EVM Blockchain

Monad (MON): The Most Performant EVM Blockchain

Beginner
2025-11-24 | 5m

Monad is a next-generation, high-performance blockchain that is fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), delivering up to 10,000 transactions per second, sub-second finality, and low fees. Founded by Keone Hon, James Hunsaker, and Eunice Giarta, and backed by $244 million from Paradigm, Dragonfly Capital, and leading VCs, Monad (MON) will soon be available on Bitget!

What is Monad (MON)?

Monad is a high-performance blockchain fully compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), delivering up to 10,000 transactions per second (TPS), sub-second finality, low fees, and scalable decentralization.

Traditional EVM chains like Ethereum process 15-30 TPS, causing network congestion and slow processing during high demand. Congestion drives up gas fees, making onchain interactions costly. Many blockchains have multi-second confirmation times, causing delays. Launching on non-EVM chains requires rewriting codebases and learning new toolsets.

Monad provides 100% EVM compatibility at the bytecode level, meaning Solidity contracts, EVM addresses, infrastructure, and tooling work out-of-the-box.

Core Innovation: Monad delivers ultra-fast, low-cost, and scalable blockchain infrastructure, fully compatible with Ethereum, removing high fees, slow confirmations, and limited throughput.

The platform processes up to 10,000 transactions per second with sub-second finality. By increasing throughput, Monad ensures each transaction costs just pennies. Validators can run nodes on consumer-grade hardware thanks to Monad's optimized database, supporting a large, global validator set.

How Monad (MON) Works

Monad is a Layer 1 blockchain that works like Ethereum but is faster and cheaper, without losing compatibility with existing Ethereum apps and wallets.

Blockchain Infrastructure

Monad operates its own standalone Layer 1 blockchain network. It does not run as a rollup or app-specific chain on top of another L1 or L2.

Standalone Layer 1: Monad runs its own decentralized Layer 1 blockchain network, distinct from Ethereum, Solana, or other public blockchains.

EVM-Compatible: The chain maintains bytecode-level compatibility with Ethereum, allowing any Solidity smart contract, tooling, and EVM integration to run natively without modification.

Validators: Over 200 validators at launch, designed for hundreds more to secure the chain on consumer-grade hardware.

Technical Architecture

Parallel Transaction Execution: Unlike Ethereum, which processes transactions sequentially, Monad processes many simultaneously, increasing throughput without raising system requirements for validators.

Custom Database (Monad DB): Optimized state database allows rapid state reads/writes, reducing system resource needs and helping validators operate on consumer hardware.

Low Block Times and Fast Finality: 12-second block times and sub-second (0.768s) finality for quick settlement.

Security: Proof-of-Stake with validators globally distributed.

User Process

1. Ethereum Compatibility: Monad runs the same smart contracts as Ethereum. Wallets, tokens, and contracts work out of the box (MetaMask, Uniswap, NFTs)

2. Fast Processing: Monad processes up to 10,000 transactions per second with sub-second finality

3. Cheap Transactions: Network fees stay very low (pennies) even at busy times

4. Plug-and-Play: Solidity smart contracts, existing code, and infrastructure can be moved to Monad with zero or little modification

Monad Token (MON) and Economics

The MON token is the native asset of the Monad blockchain, used for transaction fees (gas), staking, and protocol governance. Monad launched its token and mainnet in November 2025.

Token Details

● Token Ticker: $MON

● Blockchain: Monad Layer 1, EVM-compatible

● Consensus: Proof-of-Stake

● Total Supply: 100,000,000,000 (100 billion tokens)

● Initial Public Sale Price: $0.025 per MON token (via Coinbase)

Token Distribution

● Team: 27% (locked for 1 year, then linear vesting over 3-4 years)

● Investors: 19.7% (locked for 1 year, then linear vesting over 3-4 years)

● Community (Ecosystem + Airdrop): 41.8% (38.5% for ecosystem development, 3.3% for initial airdrop)

● Unlocked at Launch: ~10.8% (public sale + airdrop recipients)

● Locked at Launch: Team, investors, and treasury tokens locked for one year, then vest over several years

Token Utilities

● Transaction Fees (Gas): MON is used to pay for all onchain transactions (sending tokens, interacting with dApps, minting NFTs, executing smart contracts). MON is burned or paid as gas to validators

● Staking and Network Security: Users can delegate or stake MON to validators. Validators stake MON as collateral to produce blocks and validate transactions. Both validators and delegators earn MON rewards from inflation and protocol incentives

● Governance: Token holders propose and vote on protocol upgrades, inflation rates, ecosystem grants, and parameter changes

● Ecosystem Incentives: MON rewards builders, liquidity providers, users, and projects (hackathon prizes, liquidity mining, airdrops, onboarding grants)

● Payment and Utility: dApps and platforms accept MON for payments, fees, and protocol-specific functions (collateral in DeFi, NFT minting, fee reductions)

Why Monad?

Parallel EVM Execution: Unlike Ethereum and most competitors, which execute transactions sequentially, Monad processes many transactions in parallel. This enables 10,000+ TPS and near-instant finality.

Custom Monad DB: Ultra-fast database for state storage and retrieval. Validators can run nodes on consumer-grade hardware.

Sub-Second Finality (0.768s): Settlement speeds far faster than Ethereum and most L1/L2 solutions.

Bytecode-Level EVM Compatibility: Developers don't need to rewrite contracts or re-learn tooling. Solidity smart contracts and Ethereum addresses work natively.

Low, Consistent Fees: Parallel execution and high throughput keep gas and transaction fees at pennies, even during high demand.

Validator-Friendly Architecture: Minimizes resource requirements to join as a validator, encouraging geographic and hardware diversity.

Leadership: Founded by Keone Hon (high-frequency trading at Jump Trading, MIT degrees in CS, Math, and Finance), James Hunsaker (Jump Trading, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan), Eunice Giarta (MIT, Broadway Technology, Shutterstock).
