According to ChainCatcher, citing a report from Crypto Briefing, the Ellipal hardware wallet of a North Carolina retiree, Brandon LaRoque, was attacked, resulting in the loss of 1.2 million XRP, valued at over $3 million.

Reportedly, the attack occurred on October 12. The attacker first conducted two small test transfers of 10 XRP each, then transferred approximately 1.29 million XRP to a newly created wallet, and quickly dispersed the funds to about 30 different wallets. Blockchain analyst ZachXBT discovered that the stolen funds were bridged over 120 times from XRP to Tron via Bridgers, and were ultimately laundered through over-the-counter transactions related to the Southeast Asian illicit market Huione. The victim stated that this was his entire retirement savings accumulated over eight years.
