PlayDapp exploited again for a total loss of $290 million in tokens
Crypto gaming platform PlayDapp was exploited on 9 February and again on 12 February. Hackers minted 1.79 billion PLA tokens worth more than $290 million through these exploits and began laundering money. In a report on Tuesday, Elliptic noted that an unauthorised wallet (possibly as a result of a private key compromise) minted 200 million PLA tokens worth $36.5 million on 9 February. Shortly after the incident, PlayDapp sent a message to the attackers via on-chain transactions asking the hackers to return the stolen funds for a $1 million white hat reward. If it didn't, PlayDapp said it would issue a $1 million white hat bounty to find the hacker and work with law enforcement. Instead, the hackers minted another 1.59 billion PLA tokens worth $253.9 million on 12 February and began laundering the money through cryptocurrency exchanges. On 13 February, PlayDapp said that the PLA smart contract had been suspended. It is working with cryptocurrency exchanges, blockchain forensics companies and law enforcement. In addition, it is tracking minted and exchanged tokens and discussing migration solutions, such as airdrops.
