The European Central Bank may cut interest rates in June
According to Jinshi's report, European Central Bank board member Negel stated that the ECB may cut interest rates before the summer break, possibly in June, as inflation is returning towards the bank's target of 2%. This statement makes Negel one of many policymakers at the ECB who seem to support a rate cut in June and indicates that the ECB will be the second major central bank to cut rates after the Swiss National Bank. Negel said: "The possibility of a first rate cut before the summer break is increasing. The probability of a rate cut in June is definitely higher than in April." Negel added that a first rate cut does not mean there will be further cuts, as loose policies do not happen automatically. Part of this caution is due to strong wage growth, which increases the risk that household income growth could put pressure on prices.
