Reuters: Portugal data regulator bans Worldcoin from collecting biometric data for 90 days
ChainCatcher news, according to Reuters, Portugal’s data regulator CNPD has ordered Sam Altman’s iris scanning project Worldcoin to stop collecting biometric data for 90 days.
The CNPD said the risk to citizens' data protection rights was high, justifying urgent intervention to prevent serious harm. The CNPD said more than 300,000 people in Portugal provided biometric data to Worldcoin.
Worldcoin said the company began a transition to "personal hosting" in March that will give users control over their data, including deletion and any future use.
