Deeptide TechFlow news, Ordinals founder Casey tweeted that Runes was built for degens and memecoins, but the protocol is simple, efficient and secure. It is a legitimate competitor to Taproot Assets and RGB.
It does not rely on ordinarys or inscriptions, and balances are stored in UTXOs, which can be locked on the Lightning Network. Runes names are optional, if no name is specified a reserved name is assigned.
