CertiK releases Web3.0 Security Report for the first quarter of 2024: Private key leakage remains a major risk
Web3.0 security company CertiK has released the "Hack3d: Q1 2024 Web3.0 Security Report". The report shows that in the first quarter of 2024, there were a total of 223 on-chain security incidents in the Web3.0 field, resulting in total losses of approximately $502 million, an increase of 54% from the same period last year but a decrease of 3.8% from the previous quarter. Among them, January suffered the most severe loss, reaching $193 million.
Private key leaks once again became the largest category of security incidents with losses amounting to $239 million from 26 events. Ethereum had the highest total loss among all chains at $139 million. This quarter saw assets worth $77.97 million returned mainly due to Munchables event recovery efforts.The report also analyzed commonality of private key leaks, rounding error vulnerabilities in Solidity, capital inflows after Bitcoin ETF approval and major financial institutions entering on-chain finance as well as impact on L2 expansion following successful Dencun upgrade on Ethereum.
