Bitcoin has become a popular payment option in 3 Brazilian tourist cities
PANews reported on April 7 that according to Cryptoslate, in Brazil, the Lightning Network (LN) has become a popular option for daily payments in the three tourist cities of Jericoacoara, Sao Tome da Slet and Rolante. These three cities are located in the north, center and south of Brazil. In all three cities, Bitcoin adoption is driven by local nonprofit projects.
São Tomé das Leit is one of the main tourist cities in the state of Minas Gerais, a city of only 8,000 inhabitants, and the local Bitcoin project Mountain aims to spread the word to the city’s residents, mainly businessmen and students, about leading Cryptocurrency knowledge. Dozens of local businesses display "We Accept Bitcoin" stickers, and payments are made over the Lightning Network via Satoshi and Blink Wallet. The city of Jericoacoara in northeastern Brazil is known as Bitcoin Beach, and integration with the Lightning Network is fundamental to Bitcoin adoption in the region, with several businesses in the region now accepting leading Bitcoin payments. Furthermore, Rolante is located in southern Brazil and has only 21,000 residents, yet more than 200 businesses in the area accept Bitcoin payments.
