EigenLayer and EigenDA have been launched on the Ethereum mainnet
PANews reported on April 10th, according to Coindesk, that Ethereum's re-pledging protocol EigenLayer officially announced the launch of its blockchain mainnet today. This release is also accompanied by the Data Availability (DA) service EigenDA launched by the EigenLayer team. Developed by Eigen Labs, EigenDA serves as an Active Verification Service (AVS), aiming to assist other blockchain protocols in storing transaction data and other information.
The initial release of EigenLayer will limit some features. Sreeram Kannan, CEO of Eigen Labs, referred to this first release as a "beta version" in an interview last week. Notably, AVSs outside of Eigen Labs' own EigenDA will be able to "register" with this protocol but are currently unable to fully deploy.
Furthermore, it was mentioned in their X account that: "This mainnet launch does not include: (1) payments from AVSs within the protocol to operators; (2) slashing." The term "slashing" refers to a method used by EigernLayer for ensuring honesty among AVS operators: The protocol relies on a Proof-of-Stake system similar to Ethereum's where validators face risks of having their stakes revoked if they act maliciously. In its post, EignenLayer stated: “We allow the Eignenlayer market time for development and stabilization before introducing intra-protocol payments and slashing functions which will go live later this year.”
