Researchers used RoboForm vulnerability to help users recover 43.6 BTC from 2013
PANews reported on May 29th, according to The Block, two researchers helped a man recover the lost password of his crypto wallet from 2013, restoring nearly $3 million worth of Bitcoin (43.6 BTC). This man generated the wallet password using RoboForm Password Manager in 2013. The researchers exploited a vulnerability in RoboForm's early random number generator to successfully retrieve the password.
One of the researchers, Joe Grand, is a hardware hacker. He and his friend Bruno discovered a flaw in RoboForm that relied on the date and time of user's computer when generating passwords. Although this flaw was fixed in 2015, they still managed to find the correct password by testing multiple time parameters. Michael retrieved 43.6 Bitcoins from his wallet, valued at approximately $2.96 million.
