Market News: The White House is expected to nominate CFTC commissioners to serve in the FDIC and Treasury departments

PANews June 13 news, according to CoinDesk, the White House is expected to nominate Christy Goldsmith Romero, a member of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, as the next chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and nominate Kristin Johnson for a senior position in the Treasury Department.

Christy Goldsmith Romero, one of the three Democratic members of the CFTC, is expected to receive her first hearing on July 8. She is the initiator of the Technology Advisory Committee, whose members include stablecoin issuer Circle, blockchain analysis company TRM Labs and cryptocurrency custody company Fireblocks. Goldsmith Romero said at the time that the purpose of the committee was to protect American citizens from cyber attacks and ensure the "responsible development of digital assets." She was outspoken when talking about cryptocurrencies and once commented that in terms of regulation, the mood in Washington is to "get things done." Goldsmith Romero will replace Martin Gruenberg, whose resignation was a response to a report released last month. The report stated that the FDIC must make changes to address widespread sexual harassment and other misconduct. The report recommends the appointment of new officials to change the culture of the FDIC.

Another Democratic member, Kristin Johnson, will also be nominated as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Department for Financial Institutions. Johnson said Binance’s penalties from the CFTC were stepped up because the regulator had previously warned cryptocurrency companies to comply with regulations.
