The Trump administration plans to adjust the GDP calculation method
Golden Finance reports, local time March 2nd, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick stated that the Trump administration is considering excluding government spending from Gross Domestic Product (GDP) calculations. This move could potentially alter the core indicator used to measure the health of the U.S. economy and weaken external judgments on the impact of government spending cuts.
Recently, Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have made a series of drastic cuts to U.S. government departments, raising concerns that this will lead to an economic downturn. Lutnick's statement is seen as a response to these concerns. He declared: "Previous administrations have all intervened in GDP by counting government expenditure as part of it. Therefore, I want to separate these two things for greater transparency."
