Cosmos obtains native EVM framework through open-source Evmos
The Interchain Foundation (ICF) of Cosmos has funded the open-source Evmos (EVMOS -32.90%), which is the native EVM framework of its multi-chain ecosystem that includes over 200 application chains.
The foundation stated that this framework was previously developed under the Evmos project and will now be maintained as "Cosmos EVM" in the official cross-chain software stack, including Cosmos SDK. This means that the Cosmos ecosystem now has a standardized version of Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).
This development allows Cosmos blockchain to integrate with Cosmos EVM for full EVM compatibility, including support for JSON-RPC and Ethereum wallet compatibility through lightweight EVM configuration, used for native ERC-20 tokens.
This integration enhances broader cross-chain interoperability between the EVM ecosystem and Cosmos via Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol. As part of this transition, Federico Kunze Küllmer, co-founder of Evmos will no longer serve as a core contributor to Evmos but continue to provide advice on interoperability and modular architecture of Cosmos' EVM to ICF, according to Evomos. Altiplanic, Kunze Küllmer's company which is a core contributor to the codebase of Evomos will no longer participate in this project.
