Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway holds more U.S. debt than the Fed
Warren Buffett now owns nearly 5% of the entire US Treasury market, locking in $300.87 billion worth of short-term US Treasury bonds through Berkshire Hathaway. This data was disclosed in the company's latest financial report.
This large amount of Treasury bonds gives Buffett control of 4.89% of the entire US Treasury market. As of the end of March 2025, the total size of the US Treasury market is $61.5 trillion, meaning that for every $20 of Treasury bonds in circulation, $1 belongs to him.
Currently, Buffett's holdings of US Treasury bonds even exceed those of the Federal Reserve, which currently holds slightly over $195 billion in Treasury bonds.
