Base reaches the first stage of Ethereum Rollup decentralization, launches fault proof mechanism and establishes a security committee
Base has reached the first phase of Ethereum Rollup decentralization, launched a fault proof mechanism and established a security committee. Base developers stated that the network has reached the "first phase" of Vitalik Buterin's Rollup decentralization framework, making progress in reducing reliance on centralized participants.
The Base team stated: "Base has achieved decentralization in the first phase, which is a key milestone in the process of building an open global on-chain economy. By introducing permissionless fault proof and increasing decentralization of contract upgrade process through the security committee, this goal has been achieved."
Base was launched in August 2023, developed using Optimism's OP Stack package, and has now grown to become the largest Layer 2 rollup on Ethereum in terms of TVL. Previously, Base was classified as a Phase 0 Rollup mainly because it still relied on a centralized sequencer controlled by Coinbase, and its mainnet lacked fully operational permissionless fault proof.
