Vitalik: Ethereum Rollup Security Should Be Implemented in Three Stages, Gradually Moving Towards Trustlessness

Vitalik published an article categorizing Ethereum Rollup security into three stages: Stage 0: A security committee can completely override the proof system, with centralized control. Stage 1: Intervention requires agreement from 6 out of 8 members, with an external member threshold, and intervention is limited. Stage 2: Intervention only occurs when a verifiable error happens, and arbitrary decisions cannot be made. He suggests: As trust in the proof system increases, there should be a gradual transition from Stage 0 to Stage 2. Stage 0 has the lowest security and should be avoided for long-term use. Rollup should at least start from Stage 1, while focusing on auditing and maturity development of the proof system.
