Apple Plans to Leverage Generative AI to Accelerate Custom Chip Design
On June 20, it was reported that Apple is considering using artificial intelligence to accelerate the design of its core custom chips for devices. Johny Srouji, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Technologies, stated that one key lesson the company has learned is the need to use the most advanced tools for chip design. “Electronic Design Automation (EDA) companies are crucial in supporting the complexity of our chip designs, and generative AI technology has tremendous potential to accomplish more design work in less time, which can greatly boost productivity.” However, according to Apple Insider, Apple has already been using AI to some extent in its designs for years, as the third-party EDA companies it relies on have been leveraging AI and machine learning in chip design.
