According to ChainCatcher, Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas posted on X that BlackRock currently holds over 700,000 bitcoins, just 38% away from surpassing Satoshi Nakamoto to become the world's single largest bitcoin holder. (If all bitcoin ETFs are considered as a single managing entity, they have already surpassed Satoshi Nakamoto.)
BlackRock's spot bitcoin ETF—IBIT—is currently absorbing bitcoin at a rate of 40,000 coins per month (about 1,300 per day), and is expected to reach a holding of 1.2 million bitcoins by May 2026.
