According to a report by Jinse Finance citing Global Times, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent stated in an interview with Bloomberg TV on the 15th local time that the upcoming U.S.-China tariff truce deadline scheduled for next month is flexible, and market participants need not worry about the deadline. The current negotiations between China and the U.S. are “progressing well,” and both sides are expected to hold talks in the coming weeks. “I tell market participants not to worry about the August 12 date,” Bessent said. According to Bloomberg, Bessent was referring to the 90-day deadline for suspending some additional tariffs, which was announced by both sides on May 12. Bessent added that he hopes to meet with the Chinese side as soon as possible, possibly in a third country, with the meeting likely to take place early next month.
