The United States plans to list Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac later this year
According to a report by Jinse Finance citing the Wall Street Journal, sources familiar with the matter say that the U.S. government is preparing to list Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac later this year. The offering is expected to raise around $30 billion and could be launched in the coming months. Some insiders indicate that under plans currently being discussed by certain government officials, the combined valuation of the two companies could reach approximately $500 billion or more, with the offering involving the sale of 5% to 15% of their shares. However, it is still under discussion whether these two mortgage giants will go public as a single company or as two separate entities. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac primarily engage in the packaging and sale of mortgage loans, and have been under government oversight since the 2008 financial crisis, relying on government-backed guarantees to protect investors from losses.
