"Fed Mouthpiece": Powell Opens the Door to a Possible Rate Cut as Early as Next Month's Meeting
According to ChainCatcher, Nick Timiraos, a renowned Wall Street Journal reporter often referred to as the "Fed whisperer," reported that Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell on Friday opened the door to a possible rate cut as early as next month's meeting. He indicated that a potentially sharper slowdown in the job market could ease concerns that tariff-driven cost increases might fuel inflation.
However, Powell tempered market expectations for a series of aggressive rate cuts by emphasizing ongoing concerns about inflation. Inflation has remained above the Fed's 2% target for more than four consecutive years.
