Bitcoin token protocol BRC20 enables EVM-like smart contract functionality through the "BRC2" upgrade
ChainCatcher news, according to CoinDesk, the Bitcoin token protocol BRC20 has taken a step towards implementing Ethereum-style smart contracts.
According to an announcement disclosed on Monday, starting from Bitcoin block 912,690, the Bitcoin token protocol has integrated the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) into its core logic. This upgrade, known as BRC2, was jointly completed by Ordinals protocol developer Best in Slot and BRC20's anonymous founder Domo. Best in Slot CEO Eril Binari Ezerel stated that meta-protocols like Ordinals previously relied on "calculator-style" indexers, but with the integration of EVM, BRC20 will achieve Turing completeness. Domo further stated that the ultimate goal is to merge the two gold standards: Bitcoin as the most decentralized and secure network, and EVM as the most mature virtual machine, allowing users to experience Ethereum's composability and programmability while enjoying Bitcoin-level security.
