JPMorgan Chase: Stock buybacks set to hit record high
JPMorgan Chase predicts that the size of stock buybacks in the United States will increase by an additional $600 billion on top of the record-breaking $1.5 trillion this year. In just 8 months, the global buyback size has reached $1.37 trillion from last year, which means it could reach $1.9 trillion by 2025, an increase of 38%. Despite strong trading volume, buybacks relative to market capitalization are still below historical peaks (2.6% in 2007, 5% in 2007). While IPO activity is weak, record-breaking stock buybacks are reducing stock supply for the fourth consecutive year, continuing to support the market.
