On Tuesday, Google revealed a new experimental Windows application aimed at helping users locate what they're looking for more efficiently. By pressing the Alt + Space shortcut, users can quickly search through their computer files, installed programs, Google Drive documents, as well as online content.
This search feature functions much like Spotlight on Mac, allowing users to swiftly locate items both on their device and across the internet.
Available through Search Labs, Google’s platform for testing early features, this app allows users to try out new tools and share feedback before a wider release.
According to Google, Google Lens is integrated into the app, enabling users to highlight anything on their screen and search it—whether translating images or text instantly, solving math problems, and more. The app also features an AI Mode, giving users the ability to ask detailed, multi-part questions through an AI-powered search tool for more thorough answers.
Users can toggle between different result types including all results, AI mode, images, shopping, videos, and others. There’s also a dark mode option available.
Currently, the app is accessible for users in the U.S. and supports English. It requires a PC running Windows 10 or newer.
