Hinge is adopting a more equitable method for banning accounts

Hinge has changed its policy so that if a single part of your profile violates the guidelines, you won’t be removed from the app completely.

Rather than suspending your whole account, Hinge will now identify and take down only the problematic content, giving you a chance to fix it. Your profile will stay active but won’t appear in the discovery feed until you resolve the issue.

You’ll also be informed about the reason for the flag through both email and push notification, and a message within the app will prompt you to update your profile.

Content that may be flagged includes:

  • Material that is offensive, sexually explicit, violent, or discriminatory.
  • Content that encourages illegal behavior or puts others at risk.
  • Posts that advertise services or promote commercial interests.
  • Photos or likenesses of other people without their permission, or images of minors without parental or guardian consent.
  • (As well as other similar violations.)

According to the company, this update aims to clarify Hinge’s rules and give genuine users a chance to edit their profiles while maintaining a secure environment.

“By allowing daters to revise their content and remain in good standing on Hinge, we’re upholding our promise of greater openness and helping well-meaning users better grasp our guidelines, so they can focus on what’s most important: forming real connections,” said Jeff Dunn, Hinge’s chief risk officer, to TechCrunch.

Still, Hinge warns that repeated violations will result in account removal.
