Salesforce unveils Agentforce 360 amid intensifying enterprise AI rivalry

On Monday, Salesforce introduced the newest iteration of its AI agent platform, aiming to attract more businesses to its AI offerings as competition in the sector intensifies.

The leading customer relationship management company revealed its updated platform, Agentforce 360, just before its annual Dreamforce conference, which begins on October 14. The latest Agentforce version features enhanced text-based AI agent instructions, a new environment for creating and launching agents, and upgraded support for the messaging app Slack, among other improvements.

A standout feature in Agentforce 360 is its new AI agent prompting system, Agent Script, which will enter beta testing in November. Agent Script enables users to configure their AI agents for greater adaptability and improved handling of conditional “if/then” scenarios. This makes it possible for AI agents to behave more consistently in less structured situations, such as responding to customer inquiries.

Users can utilize “reasoning” models, which are designed to analyze before replying, rather than simply following learned patterns. These “reasoning” agents are powered by Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google Gemini.

Salesforce further revealed a new tool for building agents, Agentforce Builder, allowing users to create, test, and launch AI agents from a single interface. This tool, also set for a November beta release, incorporates Agentforce Vibes, an enterprise-level app vibe coding tool introduced by Salesforce earlier this month.

Additionally, Salesforce announced deeper integration between Agentforce and Slack. The company stated that its main applications, such as Agentforce Sales, IT, and HR, will become accessible directly within Slack starting this month, with further expansion planned through early 2026.

Slack is currently testing an upgraded Slackbot chatbot, designed to function as a more personalized AI assistant that learns about its user and provides tailored insights and recommendations.

Salesforce envisions Slack evolving into an enterprise search solution and intends to roll out connectors for platforms like Gmail, Outlook, and Dropbox in early 2026.

Salesforce’s latest update arrives at a pivotal moment for the enterprise AI industry. While companies continue to introduce AI features for business clients, many organizations are still struggling to realize tangible returns from these investments.

Just last week, Google introduced Gemini Enterprise, a collection of tools—many already available—for developing enterprise-grade AI agents, with early adopters including Figma, Klarna, and Virgin Voyages.

Anthropic has also begun to gain momentum with its enterprise solution, Claude Enterprise. The company recently announced a major agreement with consulting powerhouse Deloitte to provide its Claude chatbot to Deloitte’s 500,000 employees worldwide—their largest enterprise deal to date. The following day, Anthropic revealed a strategic alliance with IBM.

According to a press release, Salesforce claims Agentforce now serves 12,000 customers, far surpassing its competitors. Early adopters of the Agentforce 360 enhancements include Lennar, Adecco, and Pearson.

All of this comes despite a recent MIT report indicating that 95% of enterprise AI pilot projects fail to reach production, as organizations continue to find it difficult to justify the costs of these AI solutions.
