Google Photos has introduced a range of new AI-driven tools, such as features for editing people and objects in photos, a new Ask button for AI-generated responses about images or editing commands, AI templates for creating fresh images, and enhanced natural language search capabilities.

Initially, the company launched prompt-based editing for the Pixel 10 series in August. Now, Google announced on Tuesday that iOS users in the U.S. can use voice or text to describe their desired edits and adjust photos accordingly. The revamped photo editor with simplified editing tools is also coming to iOS devices.

This update brings a new personalized editing tool that can identify individuals from Google Photos’ face groups. Users will see a “Help me edit” option, where they can enter multiple instructions for people in the photo. For example, you might type, “Take off Riley’s sunglasses, open my eyes, make Engel smile, and open her eyes,” and the system will apply the relevant edits to each person, as shown in the image below.

Google is also integrating its well-known AI image model, Nano Banana, into Google Photos, enabling users to transform their pictures into new styles, such as Renaissance paintings or comic strips.

Additionally, Google is introducing AI-powered templates that make it simple to convert a photo into a particular style. Thanks to Nano Banana, options like retro portraits or action figure transformations have become popular. According to the company, this feature will be available next week for Android users in the U.S. and India—regions where Nano Banana is most widely used—under the Create tab.

Google Photos is also getting a minor redesign, featuring a new Ask button that serves as an entry point for various AI-powered actions. Users can request information about a photo, explore related moments, or edit using prompts. The company will also display suggestion chips to highlight possible uses for this feature, which is being released to iOS and Android users in the U.S.

Last year, Google launched an AI-based search tool for the Photos app, initially available in the United States. Now, the company is expanding this search function to over 100 countries, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and South Africa. The tool will now support more than 17 additional languages, such as Arabic, Bengali, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish.
