Ohio Man Escapes With $13,000 After Stuffing Bank Account With Fraudulent Wire Transfer: Report
Authorities in Ohio say they’re looking for a man accused of executing fraudulent bank transactions.
A man recently opened a checking and savings accounts at First National Bank and deposited $20 into each.
Three days later, police reports say the savings account received a wire transfer of $67,000 from an “unknown source,” reports the news station WKBN.
The suspect then withdrew a total of $13,000 at multiple branches, tried to transfer over $50,000 from the savings account to the checking account – and requested to wire everything all to a company in Chicago with an apartment listed as the address.
While he was at the bank trying to complete the massive withdrawal, the bank’s wire department determined the ID the man had provided was fake and the funds in his account were fraudulent.
Employees called police while trying to distract the man and keep him at the bank.
But he abruptly ran out of the branch, and police were “unable to locate him after he fled.”
